The history of Cartmel goes deep back in time and comprises a lot that has been recorded and is available in the public domain but also material that is still in the hands of its current or past residents and others.
Our aim, with the help of today’s technology is to capture as much as we can for the benefit of future generations by way of a Digital Archive under our project Living History.
From time to time, we will hold drop in days and invite residents to bring along documents, photographs or maps they can lend to us to scan. Residents have been kindly lending us the photos and maps which you can see on this site already.
Contact us with any photos, maps, documents and other images visitors to the site would enjoy.
We will also strive to record as many memories of residents as possible as they often hide interesting information. Contact us if you yourself are happy to be interviewed by a member of our Living History team or if you know someone who would.
In 2015 we embarked on a project of recording people, places and events in and around Cartmel. Click on the Film Archive tab to watch interviews, see clips of architecture and special features or enjoy events from the everyday to the exceptional or indeed unexpected.
