Alex Taylor

Alex (ina) was born in Flookburgh in 1921.  In this 46 minute interview, she talks about her memories of childhood, her education (initially with a governess and later on  at the George Watson Ladies College in Edinburgh) and the army where she served as did her father and two brothers.  Alex was stationed in a platoon on Salisbury Plain which was commanded by Dr Tennant’s daughter from Grange initially as assistant cook and then office worker and later still as officer in the A.T.S training recruits, supervising groups of girls in various locations and navigating road convoys from Newcastle to the South Coast. She also attended Emergency College at Bognor Regis and recalls poverty and hanger in that period.  Alex also speaks of her current involvement in educating and public speaking as well as her relationship with the church.
